General Announcements
The 2008 Wine Country Championship is a wrap!
Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!
All the Captains would like to thank you for volunteering for this year's Wine Country Championship. We truly appreciate your donating a significant part of your personal lives to make this tournament work.
For the fans, the memories of the 2008 tournament will be the exciting playoff finish. But for the Captains, the memories of the tournament will be of the incredible 'legs of steel' shown by five Scoring volunteers who double-shifted (walking the course twice as a Walking Scorer and/or Standard Bearer in one day) on both Thursday and Friday; of little Hunter Milano bravely holding up his Standard high while being buffeted by the winds on 6 and 12 over the weekend; of one Walking Scorer (we promised to keep Joe Shaughnessy's name anonymous) recording an ace for one of his players on the long par-5 8th hole; of the sweet Channel 1 voices of Scoring Central as they found the perfect balance between keeping radio traffic serious, but still light enough so that this was fun and not a 'job'; of all the Rovers who patched up the Shotlink Computers and sent the Walking Scorers back out to the tournament like trainers patching up their boxers and sending them into the ring; of the Marshal on 15 who gave his radio and headset to the Walking Scorer after the Scorer's radio quit working; of the Standard Bearer sign assembly team led by June and Chuck Cannon who kept the signs flowing out of the Scoring Tent as smoothly and perfectly as a finely tuned Swiss watch; of finding lost balls, hushing crowds and fighting to keep the grill and grandstand quiet so the players could putt on 18,and, lastly, of the tremendous flexibility shown by all of our volunteers throughout the tournament. You made our job so easy.
In these times of great uncertainty, I think all of us agree on one thing; we hope we can do this again in 2009.
Thank you again,
Don Scellato; Captain-Marshals;
Steve Shultis; Captain-Scoring Central;
John McGough; Co-Captain-Standard Bearers;
